An Uber customer was shocked after she discovered the price of her Uber had doubled after booking the car on the ride-sharing app.
Myah Elliot spotted the price difference while looking at her receipt the day after her 12-minute Uber ride in Los Angeles last July.
Elliot explained in her TikTok video that she ordered an Uber so that she wouldn't have to wait for a bus.
'I opened Uber, and it said the ride was going to cost me $12. I'm like, "You know what, that's worth it because I'm not waiting here,"' Elliot said.
The TikToker explained that the sudden price hike was allegedly due to expenses associated with California's commercial auto insurance requirements.

After reading her receipt, she found a message from Uber at the bottom: 'As a result of expenses associated with California's commercial auto insurance requirements, the Booking Fee has increased.'
'When I see "increase," I think a couple of dollars, not double the price I was quoted,' she stated.
She then questioned why Uber didn't initially apply this expense to her original Uber booking, which allegedly said it would be $12.

Uber has given specific reasons for the price hike, but TechCrunch revealed that the company described California's commercial insurance costs 'baselessly higher' than other states.
'Up to thirty times that of taxis and thirty times that of personal vehicles,' a TechCrunch spokesperson told Daily Dot.
'As a result of these lopsided requirements, personal injury attorneys have created a cottage industry specializing in suing rideshare platforms like ours, pushing Uber's California state-mandated commercial insurance costs to rise by more than 65% in just two years.'
The company also covers accidents and the cost of injury or damage or parties in the vehicle.
Uber will usually give victims $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident for injuries, and $25,000 in property damage per accident.
However, California laws require the company to pay $30,000 in property damage per accident instead.

Other TikTok users shared their frustration over the Uber price surges, some of which were based on personal experience.
'There used to be an option to wait for a few extra minutes to get a cheaper ride, and they removed it. Now, I'm paying extra every single morning cause of "increased demand,"' wrote a TikToker.
'I was just in Miami, got Ubers pretty much everywhere, and literally spent almost 250 can in Ubers, I almost cried,' another person commented.
Other TikTok users insisted Elliot use Lyft for now on, and more than one person made suggestions on how much is the new york new york ride she could allegedly 'get it changed back.'
'I screenshot everything and every price before and while riding, and Uber gave me my money back. The system was glitching. I know my ride was $60, but it said $11 so I took it anyway and got my money back,' a commenter wrote.
