The survival game Don't Starve has been massively popular since its release back in 2013, with the multiplayer component Don't Starve Together joining steam early access a year later. The fact the game is available on numerous platforms has greatly helped in its success.
Don't Starve has its quirks and interesting secrets which are a huge part of the charm of the game. While Don't Starve takes place in a dark and surreal world known as the Constant, some things still don't make sense or add up, even in a parallel world.
8 WX-78's Skeleton
WX-78 is one of the playable characters in Don't Starve . WX-78 is described as "a heartless machine with a deep dislike for any carbon-based life form." Although WX-78 is a robot and is heartless, it appears that they're not missing a skeleton.
If you die while playing as WX-78, you will notice you start hovering above your skeleton. Why WX-78 leaves behind a skeleton is a mystery. You already drop a random amount of gears that you used before your death, so it would make more sense if you left behind a pile of junk instead of a skeleton. Perhaps WX-78 isn't all machine as the game makes out.
7 Wilson's Hair
As time goes by in Don't Starve, the default character, Wilson, has his beard grow to different lengths. This makes sense and is what you would expect to happen.
However, the hair on top of his head does not grow at all. If his beard continually grows and needs to be regularly shaved, it makes no sense that his other hairs would not continue to grow. Perhaps when Wilson went through the machine, it damaged the hair follicles on his head, FPSCoreZone FPS preventing them from growing and also preventing any hair loss.
6 Axe Damage Against Treeguards
Treeguards are one of the many mobs in Don't Starve . Treeguards can occasionally transform from Evergreens when a nearby Evergreen is chopped down, becoming hostile to the wood-cutter. Treeguards boast a high amount of health as well as damage.
An axe would seem like the perfect weapon against a wood-based enemy since it is the tool of choice for cutting down trees. However, logic is thrown aside once more since the axe deals less damage to Treeguards than the spear.
5 The Bucket-O-Poop
It's time to talk about poop – it's a serious subject. You may find it difficult to talk about poop without raising a grin or smirking, but it has its uses. The Bucket-o-poop is a craftable item that maximizes the use of manure. As the item description delightfully explains, "less poop on hands, more poop on plants."
What doesn't make sense is that the Bucket-o-poop cannot be used as fire fuel, unlike manure. The Bucket-o-poop is merely manure stored in a bucket rather than your pockets, FPS games strategy which I imagine would create all sorts of cleaning nightmares. Why the manure from the bucket cannot be thrown into a fire to fuel it is beyond comprehension.
4 The Quacken's Name
The Quacken is a boss mob that was introduced in the Shipwrecked DLC. The name seems to be a pun of sorts on the word Kraken, but why Quacken?
The Quacken doesn't seem to have any features of a duck, and in fact, does not even quack but rather creates high-pitched whistles and squawks. The Quacken doesn't even have a duckbill and has a small beak that is a common feature of octopodes and squid.
3 Nobody Drinks
Don't Starve goes to great lengths to make a fun and challenging survival game . The game features health, sanity, and hunger needs that have to be satisfied, yet there is no thirst.
There are no drinkable liquids in the game for the player, not even water, and you survive merely off food. In the real world, it's generally accepted you will die without water after three days. This makes sense in the case of some characters like the robot WX-78 where liquid would prove to be detrimental, but human characters and especially the plant-based character Wormwood would be expected to require water. Perhaps each character is actually a cactus in disguise.
2 Golden Tools' Durability
Something that Minecraft players will know is that gold is extremely malleable; in fact, it is the most malleable of metals. This means it's not a good choice of material for tools as it is too soft to survive daily wear. In real life, gold is used for its conductive properties, making it a great material for electric components.
In Don't Starve, gold is exceptionally durable, even more so than tools made out of obsidian. While it may make sense for gameplay to make gold more durable than other more common materials, it just doesn't make sense in the real world.
1 The Spear Skeleton
Skeletons can often be found in the wilderness of the Constant, and they will sometimes have random loot spawned beside them. Striking skeletons with a hammer will also produce two Bone Shards. There are six skeleton variants in the game, and each has a "crispy" version where they have been scorched. You would expect to find multiple skeletons in a place as hostile as the Constant, adding to the unnerving nature of the game world.
One variant of the skeletons is a poor soul with a spear protruding from their mouth as if they were the victim of a freak dentistry accident. However, this spear cannot be removed from the skeleton and used. A spear driven through a skull with so much force may not get removed intact, but you would expect to be able to at least salvage it for parts like the spearhead or the wood. Then again, some characters may not have the nerve to try pulling items out of a skull, but in extreme survival situations, the faint of heart have no choice if they wish to see the next sunrise.
